Lucca, 1942
A commission from the Italian Navy for a pilot's wristwatch that could guarantee maximum legibility and water tightness in any conditions. Ilvo Fontana drew it. Circumstances meant it was never built.
A new dimension in time
In 2000, Ilvo's grandson Italo Fontana found the drawings. They became the source of the first U-BOAT watch and of the motto the brand still carries. Within a few years U-BOAT had opened single-brand boutiques and reached retailers worldwide. It now trades in over 60 key markets.
The U-BOAT signature
Identity is the brand's keyword — a design recognisable from across a room. Every piece is conceived and designed by Italo Fontana, and marked by the large crown on the left-hand side of the case. Swiss movements, created and assembled by craftsmen at the Lucca headquarters.
